Best Peking Duck In The World
Posted by Matthew Furman / Beijing, Black And White, Food, Personal Work, Travel
I’m back from Beijing and still getting my bearings from the time shift/jet lag. It was a great experience though, and I can’t wait to post some pictures once the job is finished. In the meantime, here are a few from our night out at Dadong Restaurant in Beijing. They’re known for their Peking Duck, and most people agree that they serve the best in the city. They roast the ducks in a wood burning oven, and then the chef comes out and carves it right at the table with the precision of a surgeon. Pretty amazing.
Next time in Beijing definitely check out DaDong Restaurant. Worth every Yuan…

Beijing Trip
Posted by Matthew Furman / Beijing, China, On Location, Personal Work, Travel
I’m on a shoot in Beijing for the next few days. I arrived at 2am last night, and got into the hotel around 3. Tried to force myself to sleep, but was up at 5 and decided to get out and see what was happening around my hotel. This guy was practicing his Tai Chi. Or Kung Fu? Not sure, but I started taking some pictures and at first I thought it was pissing him off, but I think he kind of liked the attention and started really putting on a performance. Maybe if I show up at the same time tomorrow, he’ll ask me to start training with him. Or, maybe I’ve seen too many trailers for the new Karate Kid movie.

Long Beach, NY

I was there last weekend scoping it out. I’d love to live by a beach. Probably make a lot more pictures that look like this.
For now, still looking.

The Last Time I Was In Wichita
Posted by Matthew Furman / Black And White, On Location, Personal Work, Stories, Travel
Was also the last time I shot film.
I was there shooting a CEO for a business magazine. I knew I’d be done early, and since I couldn’t get a flight back to NY till the next day, I decided to take along my RZ and shoot a roll or two. Fun to switch it up from the digi every once in awhile.

Recap From Week In Europe
Posted by Matthew Furman / Landscape, Personal Work, Road Trip, Travel
Frankfurt, Munich, Switzerland, and Prague. I was in each of those cities last week. It was an ambitious trip, and we crammed in as much as possible. We rented a car, and I was the driver on the trip so I can now add ‘Autobahn Expert’ to my resume. And I only say expert because most of the time I was driving through one of the worst snow storms Germany has had in years. My favorites? Prague was amazing. Unlike any place I’d ever been. And Munich was a really cool city that I felt I’d like to live in. But the highlight for me was going to the top of Mt. Pilatus in Switzerland. I’ve already posted an image from that here, but I also shot some video which is what really does these breathtaking views justice. If you’re afraid of heights, perhaps you shouldn’t watch. If not, I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. And turn off the HD option if it’s not playing properly.

Next Stop - Switzerland
Posted by Matthew Furman / Landscape, Road Trip, Travel
Took a gondola to the top of Mt. Pilatus today. Unreal. Once at the top, I wanted to hop on a snowboard and ride down it. Even though I didn’t have a board and probably would’ve been arrested for doing it. Just weird to take a gondola down the mountain too. Never did that before…

Europe This Week
Posted by Matthew Furman / Personal Work, Road Trip, Travel
I’m on a road trip in Europe this week. Up first, Frankfurt Germany.
Loved this cool mural inside St. Paul’s, which was destroyed in the war, but rebuilt and no longer used as a church. In 63 JFK gave a major speech here.

AA Ad Campaign, The Players Involved
Posted by Matthew Furman / Madrid, On Location, Outtake, Rome, Stories, Travel
I already posted the Ads that I shot for American Airlines here. Just wanted to include a few images of the crew. Since we were shooting in 3 different countries, I needed to have a great team with me. And all these guys are amazing at what they do. Big thanks to everyone involved(including all the peeps I’ve missed getting pics of), and especially to everyone at Burrell Communications.
The crew. Assistant Matt Roady, Yours Truly, and Producer Jess Dudley from Wonderful Machine.

Madrid, Spain. I think this was called ‘La Casa De La Carne’. We meat lovers refer to it as ‘heaven’.

Bob Sayles, Art Buyer/Chef/Event Planner/International Man of Mystery

Madrid, Spain. I saw these fans at a few cafe’s around the city. Love it.

Here I am looking real anxious to get this shoot started. After all the prep and travel, I couldn’t wait to get rollin.

The Best Way To Enter A City
Posted by Matthew Furman / Cityscape, Night Photography, On Location, Travel, Videos
I always love driving into ‘The City Of Bridges’(it has more than Venice) because as soon as you come out of The Fort Pitt Tunnel you’re hit with this amazing view of the city. So while on a job there last week I thought it would be cool to try and get it on video. Doesn’t really do it justice, but you get the idea.

Chi-Town Recap
Posted by Matthew Furman / Black And White, Cityscape, Food, On Location, Personal Work, Travel
Had some deep dish pizza, saw the big bean, and even though it rained most of the time, I loved Chicago. Great food, pubs, and architecture…my kind of city. Mrs. Furman came along on this one and now wants to move there! We’ll see. For now I’m back to the grind here in NY.

The Fried Chicken Capital Of America
Posted by Matthew Furman / Food, Personal Work, Road Trip, Travel
On a little road trip this weekend we were in Barberton Ohio, which claims itself as ‘The Fried Chicken Capital Of America’. So I asked around and most people said that the best place to go was Milich’s Village Inn. This place is no frills, but it definitely lived up to its reputation.
